"Hey there, and thanks for stopping by! My name is Mal, and it's my job to help you succeed in being the best musician you can possibly be!"

Your Teacher

 Mal Zego

So, now's probably a good time to tell you just a little bit about me! Here, I'll just give you a quick run down on what I've been doing lately, but if you want the full blown story, check the "ABOUT" page for more extensive history details, and a LOT more rambling!

OK, currently I'm teaching Bass and Guitar (Electric and Acoustic) from my home in Mooloolaba, and playing in a few Sunshine Coast/Brisbane based music acts.

Meridian is a typical Party Rock/Top Hits 4 piece cover band, who had been around for a LONG time before I joined them, and will no doubt continue long after I eventually leave too! I play guitar for this outfit, and we have racked up quite a few gigs over the last few years! The Wharf at Fridays, O'Malleys Irish Pub, Mooloolaba Surf Club, and Billys Nightclub Gympie are just a few of the regular haunts for this band.

Midnight Rose is an Acoustic Duo featuring the very talented Rachel Ritzau (a Sunshine Coast based Piano/Vocal teacher and Music Artist) and myself. While Rachel plays great guitar, her vocals are where she truly  shines, and it gives me the freedom to play virtually whatever I like! Oh, and she is even brave enough to let me get near the microphone occasionally! (Some people have the patience of a saint!)

Masters of Rock is a Brisbane based concept that have acts centred around MANY different artists! The show I am fortunate enough to be affiliated with, is the Classic Rock show which incorporates FIVE bands into the one Show. This band pays homage to Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Deep Purple, Guns N' Roses, and AC/DC! This hard hitting show includes big sound production, full light show and all the costuming/antics of the artists represented! It's always fun and always a great crowd!

Along with these regulars, there are many "Irregulars" that I work for as well! Any opportunity I get to play Bass or Guitar with any band or outfit, I will take it without hesitation, as I enjoy the challenge of working with many different artists, and it keep me on my "musical toes," so to speak! I wont bother naming names now, but if you are interested, see my more detailed "About" page!

When I'm not actually out gigging, there is no shortage of ways to stay on my musical path. I love nothing more than grabbing a guitar, and just playing - getting into that mental place I call "The Zone" - and it's amazing how so many ideas can come to you when inspiration hits!

One thing I have also found, is the importance of always striving to learn more and more about my chosen instruments. The way I figure it, I couldn't learn everything I wanted to learn about music in even THREE lifetimes, let alone ONE, so I try to make it a point to learn at least ONE new thing a day! So far, I think I'm on track!
